The Greenbrier River

The Greenbrier River is formed in Durbin, West Virginia by the union of the East Fork Greenbrier River and the West Fork Greenbrier River which both arise in northern Pocahontas County at elevations greater than 3,600 feet. The river then flows in a southwesterly direction through three southeastern West Virginia counties (Pocahontas, Greenbrier and Summers) until it joins the New River in Hinton, West Virginia. The Greenbrier is 162 miles long, making it one of the longest rivers in West Virginia and the longest unblocked river in the eastern United States. The river drains a total of 1,656 square miles including most of Pocahontas and Greenbrier counties and parts of Monroe and Summers counties.
